McArthur Road Sports Complex Breaks Ground Near I-295 In Fayetteville

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — City leaders, Fort Bragg representatives and state officials gathered Thursday morning for a groundbreaking ceremony marking the start of construction on the new McArthur Road Sports Complex, a major recreational development planned near the Interstate 295 corridor on Fayetteville’s north side.

The project site is located along McArthur Road near the Tiffany Pines subdivision and represents years of planning tied to the voter-approved 2016 Parks and Recreation bond. Officials say the new complex is intended to expand athletic opportunities while helping drive tourism and economic activity in Cumberland County.

During the ceremony, recognition was given to former Fayetteville City Councilmember Kathy Jensen for her advocacy and support tied to the large-scale investment coming to the area.

According to city officials, the sports complex will be developed across approximately 70 acres through a long-term agreement between the City of Fayetteville and Fort Bragg. Leaders say the location near I-295 positions the complex to become a regional destination for tournaments, sporting events and community gatherings.

Plans for the complex include 12 baseball fields designed for youth athletics and tournament competition, along with a multi-use building featuring restrooms, concessions and office space. Additional features are expected to include an open-air pavilion, maintenance facility, expanded parking areas and another restroom and concession area near the parking section.

Officials say the project is expected to increase regional activity and tourism by attracting sporting events and visitors to the area while supporting nearby businesses and future development along the growing corridor.

The complex also adds to Cumberland County’s expanding network of sports and recreation facilities, including the Jordan Soccer Complex, the J.T. Robinson Center in Hope Mills and the proposed cricket complex at the US Open Sports Complex near Interstate 95. Separately, the Crown Arena also recently welcomed Fayetteville Liberty basketball, adding another layer to the county’s growing sports presence.

Construction is now underway, with visible progress expected to increase over the coming year in the College Lakes, Eureka Springs and Tiffany Pines areas.
