Christmas Spirit in Fayetteville celebrated by ‘A Dicken’s Holiday’ downtown event

A Dickens Holiday

Downtown Fayetteville was transformed into a Victorian-style theme to celebrate the Christmas spirit. Sponsored by the Downtown Alliance and The Arts Council, this event began at 1pm until 9pm. A candlelight vigil began around 5pm. The market house included a large Christmas tree at ground level, an open exhibit upstairs, and many families enjoying the event.

Hay Street consisted of vendor booths of jewelry makers, Christmas tree ornaments, apple cider and gingerbread. Smiling faces peeked from the crowds, with local politicians of the community also in attendance, such as Rick Glazier, Kady-Ann Davy, DJ Haire, and more. Mr. Haire’s costume was intriguing as he scrolled the street with “Scrooge” and dozens of other participants dressed in the Victorian style. Ghosts of Christmas past, Scrooge and late 1800’s police offers uniforms were a few enjoyable costumes.

With Black Friday ongoing and parking issues, there downtown area was still filled with happy residents.  One elderly man was waiting in line for the upstairs exhibit of the market house.  He stated he was raised in Fayetteville and never been inside the market house.  This opportunity seemed very rewarding as I seen him smiling upon his way out.  The view from the balcony door was quite impressive as the large crowd filled Hay street and Bragg Boulevard was seen in far distance.

These downtown events are growing more lively and a wonderful experience for the Fayetteville community.  From a diverse crowd of residents, travelers from nearby towns, local business owners & leaders, or military & their families, there is equal chance in joining the fun.  Checkout the photo galleries below or visit our facebook page(s) for more.  Thanks and see you next event!
