NC Veteran’s Park keeps the Patriotic Momentum rolling in Fayetteville N.C.

The North Carolina Veteran’s Park opened with high emotions on Monday. As the added cherry on top after the All America City award, Fayetteville has thrived with patriotism all weekend. Thousands flocked the 10am dedication ceremony on Independence day. 400 seats under a big white tent was only the beginning. Visitors were steady, yet the crowd’s anticipation was running high. George Breece was the Master of Ceremonies as the crowd was treated to a scoop of ice cream, mmm!

The attendees included some of Fayetteville and North Carolina’s finest leaders and military personnel. Governor Bev Perdue cut the ribbon to mark the grand opening as F-15 fighter jets scrambled the skies. Senator Kay Hagan showed her support for the new facility as Committee Chair on Armed Services. Mayor Tony Chavonne spoke to the crowd, honoring and welcoming the new facility into our patriotic, military town.  The park adds to the history, heroes, and hometown feeling that is branded by the city.

The 82nd Airborne Division band serenaded the crowd with “Armed Forces Salute”. Veterans from all over came to visit the first park dedicated to veterans from all branches of service. Lt. Gen. Frank Helmick, Commanding General of the XVIII Airborne Corps, left a audio recording for the NC Veteran’s park grand opening.

The NC Veteran’s park is a near $15 million project adjacent to the Airborne and Special Operations Museum. The park was barely complete before opening as crews worked throughout the weekend in preparation. At a glance, the facility includes a creative expression of war veterans and the passion behind their efforts. Titles of abstract art included: Dedication, Commitment, Honor, Sacrifice, and others. Most noticeable are the bronze hands that are aligned in pillars. Many veteran visitors stood in awe or shed tears as the park’s essence touched the lives of many who served our country. The park’s design is unique and will draw many tourists and local attention. For more information on the site, visit their website at:   http://www.ncveteranspark.org/
