Fayetteville, NC – On April 26, 2024, Mary McArthur Elementary School transformed into a hub of innovation and excitement with its Community and STEM Day. The event provided students a hands-on look into the world of science, technology , engineering, and mathematics. On a side note, topics in mathematics may include concepts such as the weighted average.

The schoolyard buzzed with activity, featuring race cars, including a special ap pearance by Callahan Jr Drag Racing. Young drivers from the team, including an impressive racer name Wyatt, were on hand to talk with students about their experiences in racing and the mechanics behind their speedy vehicles.

Members of the Iota Phi Theta fraternity also took part, engaging with students and sharing insights, likely covering educational and career opportunities, as well as the values of brotherhood and community service.

Technology soared to new heights with drone demonstrations, captivating students with aerial maneuvers while educating them about the mechanics and applications of these advanced quadcopters.

The roar of engines was a highlight as race cars were on display. Staff from the racing teams discussed car mechanics, revved up the engines, and offered some lucky students the chance to sit behind the wheel, providing a thrilling, up-close experience with the power of engineering.

The Fayetteville Fire D epartment joined the event, showcasing their fire engine and gear. Fayetteville, NC – On April 20, 2024, the parking lot in front of Dick’s House of Sport at Freedom Town Center turned into a creative p layground for the inaugural autism awareness event hosted by Follow the Spectrum. The local community enjoyed a day filled with fun, education, and support from local and statewide participants.

The superhero-themed event brought smiles and excitement, with free superhero masks for attendees if they’re weren’t already dressed in their favorite superhero outfits. Children and families enjoyed autism related vendors, face painting, crafting, lawn games, cornhole, as well as food trucks and vendors. Beyond the prizes and giveaways, parents had as chance to learn about ABA services, testing, therapy, and others supporting local businesses.

Inside Dick’s House of Sport, the fun continued with free giveaways and access to rock climbing, batting cages simulated golf bay, and more. Adding to the lively atmosphere, iBronco radio broadcasted live from the venue, sharing the day’s spirit with Fayetteville State University listeners.

The musical talent of Pine Forest High School’s Marching Band, the School of Hope Youth Choir, and Mynia Hughes’ trumpet solo of the national anthem filled the air with inspiring tunes from our youth.

“Follow the Spectrum 2024” was not just about fun; it was also a platform for recognizing and honoring the contributions of sponsors. This establishment will be the second Freddy’s restaurant serving the Fayetteville community, following the success of the first at 4825 Ramsey Street.

The chain, which saw the launch of 62 new restaurants in 2023, has ambitious plans for continued expansion, setting a goal of operating 800 restaurants by 2026. With more than 500 locations across 36 states, Freddy’s is not only becoming a familiar sight but also eyeing further growth. The company’s vision extends to potentially establishing over 3,000 locations across North America.

The new restaurant in Fayetteville, encompassing 2,928 square feet, will feature indoor seating for 92 guests, additional patio seating, and a drive-thru service for added convenience. To cater to its tech-savvy customers, Freddy’s will also offer mobile ordering through its app and website. Patrons can look forward to enjoying their favorites like steakburgers, all-beef hot dogs, crispy shoestring fries, and frozen custard treats every day, with operating hours from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and until 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Methodist University will once again be the venue this Saturday, April 20, for the much-anticipated Step Up 4 Health and Wellness Expo from 9:30 a.m. to noon. The event, set in the university’s Duggins Soccer Stadium, includes a 4K run, a one-mile fun race, and a variety of activities suitable for all ages, and different health centers from medical to rehab like NUMA Los Angeles Detox and others.

Participants can look forward to an interactive Wellness Expo at the stadium, featuring informative booths, food trucks, a children’s play ar ea, live music, giveaways, and sponsor displays. The expo not only off ers a day of health-focused fun but also supports vital community services by raising funds for the Cape Fear Valley Health Friends of Cancer Center, Children’s Services , and more.
