Fort Liberty Leaders Pledge to Combat Child Abuse in 2024
FORT LIBERTY, NC — In a solemn gathering at the Soldier Support Center, Fort Liberty Garrison Commander, Col. John Wilcox, alongside Garrison Command Sgt. Maj. Greg Seymour, signed the 2024 Child Abuse Prevention Month Proclamation. The ceremony, orchestrated by the Fort Liberty Army Community Service on March 27, 2024, signified a strong commitment to child welfare within the military community.
The 2024 proclamation marks a continued promise to fight against child abuse and to nurture a supportive environment for the development and well-being of children. With the theme “MilParents Matter,” this year’s Child Abuse Prevention Month recognizes the vital role that military parents play in raising resilient and secure children.
Simultaneous with the signing, the command team installed a garden of pinwheels at the center’s entrance. These spinning symbols of child abuse prevention are set to remind the community of their collective duty to protect children from harm and to foster safe environments for them to flourish.
This formal proclamation and the pinwheels’ placement kick off a month dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of family and community in preventing child abuse and neglect. It stands as a public declaration of the Fort Liberty Garrison Command’s unwavering dedication to this cause.
The events of March 27 serve not only as a reminder of the vulnerabilities faced by children but also as a call to action for individuals and organizations across Fort Liberty to work collaboratively towards the prevention of child abuse.
