TAKE A TOUR AROUND THE WORLD:
Immigration Justice Organization Receives $12k For Arts Event
Fayetteville, NC- Local immigration justice nonprofit organization receives $12,000 grant from
Fayetteville Arts Council for an event titled “Tour Around the World: Exploring Immigrant
Experiences Through Art”. The event, scheduled for May 2023, seeks to inspire the community
by highlighting the impacts and talents of Cumberland County’s immigrant populations. This will
include musical, visual, and literary expressions.
“Although there have been powerful cultural events in Cumberland County in the past this
program is different in that it seeks to not only display the richness of cultures that surrounds us
but also educate, empower and mobilize members of the community to embrace cultural
inclusivity” says executive director, Brandy A. Mcpherson.
About Fayetteville Justice For Our Neighbors (FJFON) – Fayetteville Justice For Our
Neighbors is a regional office of the National JFON network, which grew out of the United
Methodist Committee on Relief’s (UMCOR) long commitment to refugees and immigrants.
UMCOR established Justice For Our Neighbors in 1999, and since that time has grown a
network of over 20 sites supporting over 50 clinics that serve thousands of clients annually. The
core function of this network is to provide high-quality, low-cost legal services that bring
immigrants into permanent legal status, providing them a path for greater legal and economic
security.
FJFON is the only immigration legal aid nonprofit in the southeast region of North Carolina,
meaning that we are the only accessible option for many immigrants to obtain free advice and
counsel and/or low-to-no-cost extended legal services. FJFON is also one of the few
organizations on this side of the state focused on increasing knowledge of immigrant rights and
legal pathways, and are also unique in the drive to leverage local organizations and church
communities to foster outreach events as well as broader community conversations designed to
dispel immigration myths and engender greater empathy and support for compassionate reforms.
