JOB FAIR: “Cumberland Careers” on July 21, 2022 at Crown Expo Center
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Cumberland County Government will host the “Cumberland Careers,” a County-wide career fair on Thursday, July 21 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. in the Crown Expo Center at 1960 Coliseum Drive, Fayetteville.
The primary goal of the career fair is to connect job seekers with career opportunities in Cumberland County Government, which offers competitive benefits and a stable work environment with opportunities for professional growth and development within the organization. It will also be an opportunity for people to learn about Cumberland County’s different departments – each of the County’s more than two dozen departments will have a table at the career fair, where they will have information on available jobs and the vital public services they provide.
“We’re hosting this career fair to educate people about career opportunities with Cumberland County Government – we have a wide variety of open positions with a range of experience requirements including entry-level positions with very competitive benefits and employee-centered programs,” said Assistant County Manager, Brian Haney, who is also serving as the County’s Interim Human Resources Director. “Job seekers who come out will be able to learn about these positions directly from the departments they serve and will be able to apply for jobs on-site with assistance from County staff.”
In addition to having all County departments on-hand, County staff will present information on other attractive incentives the County offers employees including benefits, wellness programs, and an on-site primary care provider and pharmacy for employees and their covered family members.
Cumberland County offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental and vision plans as well as employer paid Basic Life and Accidental Death and Dismemberment for eligible employees. There are also options for voluntary benefits plans such as Life Insurance, Short- and Long-Term disability, Critical Illness and Permanent Life policies.
Cumberland County employees also have the ability to contribute an NC 401K plan, and the County provides a 2% contribution for all employees along with an additional 5% contribution for law enforcement. The County is currently providing a retention incentive of $1,000 for employees who are hired from now through November 1, 2022, and who stay through June 2023.
The County provides paid leave to include sick, annual, military, and school participation, and recognizes 13 paid holidays per year, including a recently added floating holiday that employees can use any day throughout the year that has significance for them.
“I had a general plan in mind when I was retiring from the Army, but nothing set in stone,” said Loren Bymer, Deputy Director for Public Information. “With the flexibility and additional benefits provided not just as an employee, but also as a retiree staying in Cumberland County, it turned out to be a great fit for me.”
“Cumberland County Government is working hard to attract and retain a capable and skilled workforce,” said Haney. “We want to make sure job seekers in Cumberland County and the surrounding area know we’re here and what options are available for them to enter into lifelong careers in public service. We also want to make sure Cumberland County’s workforce is reflective of the community we serve.”
