“The Bicycle Man Outreach Project” by Moses Mathis Continues with over 800 Free Bikes Distributed in 2021
The Bicycle man Community Outreach Projects was founded by community activist, Moses Mathis. Mr. Mathis started fixing local children’s bicycles for no charge over 25 years ago in the subdivision of Tiffany Pines, near the College Lakes area. Neighbors would bring their bikes for repair, which later turned into a program to fix broken bicycles and gift them to less fortunate children in the community. With many donated bicycles and growing number of helping hands, the program hosted a big event for distribution. Each year, nearly 1,000 bikes are gifted during the Christmas holiday with the help of dozens of volunteers, sponsors, and supporting organizations. Mr. Mathis gained his wings in 2013 and his wife, Ann Mathis, vowed to continue his legacy and philanthropy. Mrs. Mathis has operated and managed the outreach project for years and has shown her gratitude to the many people who help make this possible. She admits there has been struggles and hardships in keeping the program successful, yet each year seems to find a way to make the impossible, possible.
