2012 Memorial Day Celebrations in the Fayetteville Region
Memorial weekend was filled with honorable celebrations remembering our troops across the region. The extended weekend included celebrations in NC Veteran’s Park and Freedom Park in Fayetteville, NC. The city’s annual events includes an entire month entitled, “31 Day Salute. The month of May consists of a series of events for the local community and military families. Most notable, the Airborne and Special Operations museum’s lawn is covered with US flags dedicated individually to a soldier from local sponsors. At Cornerstone United Methodist Church near Rim Road also held a open field on flags and crosses which symbolized over 400 soldiers who served and stationed at Fort Bragg, NC.
Other regional event’s included Memorial Day honors in Hope Mills, Spring Lake, and Fort Bragg, NC. Spring Lake mayor launched a community parade where troops marched down Main Street. Hope Mills held a social gathering of veterans to honor their community’s fallen soldiers as well.
