FAYETTEVILLE, NC – As the countdown to Super Bowl LIX begins, football fans in North Carolina have even more reason to tune in. The Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles will battle for the championship on February 9, 2025, and several players taking the field have strong ties to the Tar Heel State.

North Carolina Natives and College Stars Representing Kansas City

The Kansas City Chiefs roster features multiple players who got their start in North Carolina before making it to the NFL.

Joshua Williams, a cornerback from Fayetteville, played high school football at Jack Britt High School before continuing his career at Fayetteville State University. He has been a key part of Kansas City’s defense and a hometown favorite for Fayetteville fans.

Cornell Powell, a wide receiver from Greenville, attended J.H. Rose High School before playing at Clemson. Known for his speed and athleticism, Powell adds depth to the Chiefs’ receiving corps.

D.J. Humphries, an offensive tackle from Charlotte, played at Mallard Creek High School before heading to the University of Florida. His experience and size make him a valuable presence on the offensive line.

Carson Wentz, a quarterback born in Raleigh, may not have played college football in North Carolina, but his hometown roots remain strong. He developed his skills at North Dakota State before making his way to the NFL.

Joe Thuney, an offensive lineman, made his mark at NC State from 2011 to 2015. His success in college football led to a career in the NFL, where he has become a standout blocker for the Chiefs.

North Carolina Talent on the Philadelphia Eagles Roster

The Philadelphia Eagles also have a strong presence of North Carolina-born and trained players.

Landon Dickerson, an offensive lineman from Hickory, attended South Caldwell High School before excelling at Alabama. His versatility and strength have made him a crucial part of Philadelphia’s offensive line.

Jordan Davis, a defensive tackle from Charlotte, also played at Mallard Creek High School before becoming a dominant force at the University of Georgia. His size and power have helped him become a key contributor to the Eagles’ defense.

Will Shipley, a rookie running back from Weddington, made a name for himself at Weddington High School before starring at Clemson. His speed and agility have made him an exciting addition to the Eagles’ backfield.
