Pokemon Trainers Flock Downtown’s Fourth Friday in August
Downtown Fayetteville, NC was swarming with Pokemon trainers for Fourth Friday celebrations.
The Downtown Alliance partnered with 1080 Advertising & Media to organize a Pokemon crawl that would attract local lovers of the trending augmented reality mobile app to the downtown area. It only takes a phone and an attractive area like downtown Fayetteville for one to enjoy the adventure and fun. Users of the Pokemon Go mobile app simply walk to find various characters and digital prizes in attempts to catch them all. The GPS based game has taken off in recent months as many businesses have seen more foot traffic and kids are eagerly venturing outside for a physical active video gaming experience. It seems like a win-win situation for businesses and residents and Adam White, owner of 1080 Advertising & Media, knew just that when he introduced the idea to the Downtown Alliance. White was also helpful in the weeks earlier Cape Fear Botanical Garden hosted a couple Pokemon events drawing massive crowds in upwards of 3,000 in total.
For August’s Fourth Friday, it was also a great turnout. From adults to kids, friends to families, the area filled as many registered at the Fascinate-U Children’s Museum and began their journey around Fayetteville’s downtown area. Pokemon players had a chance in winning some awesome prizes, stopping for freebies at local merchant shops, as well as enjoy the existing in-game prizes that are plentiful in this side of town. A trip to Fayetteville’s market house round-a-bout and throughout Hay Street is Pokemon heaven for local participants, as Poke stops, gyms, and rare characters are in close proximity.
