Extreme Makeover: Home Edition is taking over our city for a good cause. The producers and staff cheered the crown coliseum to gain support of their announcement to film in Fayetteville. This pep rally was topped by Mayor Tony Chavonne and American Idol contestant, Victoria Huggins. It was a heart-filled crowd as Fayetteville has experienced some great luck and accolades in recent weeks. Not only will the new show bring positive publicity, but a lucky family will win the extreme home makeover. Today, the winner was announced, Barbara Marshall!

Barbara Marshall, a former navy officer, received a knock on the door from Blue Ridge Log Cabins. She is self-funded operator of a Veterans shelter for homeless women, Steps-n-Stages Jubilee House. News reports Barbara hosts over 200 people on an average night. The home is located on Langdon St (near Murchison & Ramsey) and near Fayetteville State University. The estimated time of construction is 106 hours or less than a week to complete.

Many volunteers are scheduled to help working around the clock. Even Senator Kay Hagan is slated to help out on Saturday. You can signup, too! The family will spend one week at Disney World Resort in Florida while the home is renovated. Infamous designers will use their skills to turn the house into a home, as seen on previous episodes of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. The designers include: Paul DiMeo, Tracy Hutson, John Littlefield and Sabrina Soto. The public is welcome to see. A special shuttle is available to the site from FSU campus parking, off Langdon St. The time schedule is Saturday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Bring your camera and take some great pics to share with us on facebook!
