Local Middle Schooler, Kerrigan, Champions for Fayetteville Animal Shelter with Innovative Fundraising
FAYETTEVILLE, NC – Local middle school student from Mac Williams Middle School, Kerrigan, is exemplifying the spirit of community service in Fayetteville. Although she was not of the required age to volunteer at the Fayetteville Animal Protection Society (F.A.P.S.) – the city’s only licensed, no-kill, non-profit animal shelter – she didn’t let that deter her. Instead, she took an innovative approach to support the shelter by fundraising through her school-based business, The Busy Bee.
Throughout the school year, Kerrigan crafted and sold her art creations to fellow students, ultimately raising $117. She then directed half of this sum, $58.50, to F.A.P.S., a donation which her parents generously matched. Last year, her focus was on St. Jude’s, which she supported through the sale of rubber band bracelets. This year, she expanded her offerings, adding necklaces, clay jewelry, and custom drawings to her catalog.
Deeply moved by the stories of the shelter’s long-term residents, Kerrigan initiated a food and supply drive to further benefit F.A.P.S. She is now encouraging community members to help by donating much-needed supplies, including:
- Bleach
- Odoban
- Medium-Sized Latex Gloves
- Purina Pro Plan Wet Food for Puppies
- Dog Toys (Especially for heavy chewers like Nylabones or Kong Brand toys, as softer toys are quickly destroyed)
- Diamonds Natural All Life Stages Dog Food
- Cardboard Scratchers for Cats (DIY versions are welcomed)
- Cat Treats and Dog Treats
Donations can be made directly at 6009 Gallatin Rd, Stedman NC. A dedicated box is available for drop-offs on her front porch. Additionally, Kerrigan is offering mobile cash transfer transactions, ensuring transparency by providing redacted screenshots of each transaction for public assurance.
The Fayetteville community is encouraged to rally behind this dedicated young activist, joining her in supporting the welfare of the animals at F.A.P.S.
