Douglas Byrd High School’s softball program is calling on the Fayetteville community to help restore and improve its home field at 1024 Ireland Drive. After weather impacted initial cleanup efforts, organizers are planning a second workday with more time to coordinate volunteers and resources.
The Community Field Clean Up — Part 2 will take place on February 28, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Supporters of youth athletics, local students and neighborhood pride are encouraged to participate.
Volunteers will assist with general trash and debris removal, repainting and refreshing dugouts, minor repairs and field preparation, as well as mowing, raking and overall beautification of the area. Organizers say even a few hours of community support can significantly improve the space where student-athletes practice and compete.
Participants are asked to bring work gloves, brooms, trash bags, rakes, lawnmowers, blowers, weed trimmers and black or cardinal spray paint if available. Supplies will help maximize progress during the three-hour cleanup window.
For additional information or to confirm participation, volunteers can contact Coach Victory at 910-916-6277.
The event represents more than field maintenance. It reflects a broader effort to strengthen community ties and invest directly in local youth sports programs.
