FAYETTEVILLE, NC — After nearly four decades of artistry, community, and culture, one of Fayetteville’s most iconic tattoo shops will soon close its doors. Bill Claydon’s Tattoo World, located at 5955 Yadkin Road, has announced that it will officially close on October 31, marking the end of a 39-year legacy that helped shape the city’s tattoo scene and creative identity.
Founded in 1986 by the late Bill Claydon, the shop quickly became more than just a business — it evolved into a cornerstone of Fayetteville’s art and alternative culture. Claydon, who passed away on Februa ry 3, 2022, after a battle with throat cancer, was known not only for his exceptional tattoo work but also for his mentorship, humor, and dedication to his craft. His influence extended far beyond his clients, inspiring generations of tattoo artists throughout Cumberland County and beyond.

Since its opening, Bill Claydon’s Tattoo World has stood out for its commitment to professionalism, cleanliness, and high-quality artistry. The shop gained a loyal following for its ability to master both bold, traditional designs and intricate, realistic pieces. Over the years, its reputation attracted clients from across the region who sought both Claydon’s craftsmanship and the camaraderie his shop provided.
After Claydon’s passing, the studio continued under new ownership, keeping his name and vision alive. Now, as the sho p prepares to close, the staff has expressed gratitude to the countless clients, artists, and friends who have supported them throughout the years.
In a public farewell, the team invited the community to share stories, photos, and memories celebrating the impact of Bill Claydon’s Tattoo World — a place that, for many, felt like a second home.
Although the physical doors will close at the end of October, the spirit of the shop endures in every tattoo inked, every artist mentored, and every life touched by the creativity and connection it inspired.
