Amazon to End Prime Sharing Outside the Household Starting October 1, 2025

SEATTLE, WA — Beginning October 1, 2025, Amazon will officially end its Prime Invitee program, changing how members can share their benefits. The program previously allowed Prime subscribers to extend free shipping and select perks to friends or family members who lived elsewhere.

Under the new policy, Prime sharing will be limited strictly to members of the same household through the Amazon Family plan. That means only one additional adult living at the same address can share the account’s benefits, along with up to four teens (if added before April 7, 2025) and four children. All users must reside together and use the same payment method.

For those currently enjoying Prime benefits through someone else’s account outside their home, access will end when the policy takes effect. However, Amazon is offering a temporary discount to ease the transition. Invitees can sign up for their own Prime membership at a reduced rate of $14.99 per month for the first year, with the offer available from September 5 through December 31, 2025.

The change reflects Amazon’s effort to tighten account sharing rules, aligning with similar moves by other major subscription services.

In short, Prime benefits will soon stay under one roof — so users who share their accounts with friends or relatives elsewhere should prepare before October arrives.
