FAYETTEVILLE, NC — On Saturday, April 26, 2025, Follow the Spectrum hosted its Second Annual Superhero Autism Awareness Festival at the Crown Complex’s outdoor lawn, bringing together nearly 600 attendees for a day devoted to creativity, inclusion, and community connection. The free event provided a platform to celebrate neurodiversity while promoting autism awareness through the power of artistic expression.

This year’s theme focused on “expression through art and autism awareness,” emphasizing how creativity can serve as both a tool for self-empowerment and a means of building community understanding. Sponsored in part by the Arts Council of Fayetteville | Cumberland County and the North Carolina Arts Council, the festival showcased the dynamic relationship between artistic engagement and autism advocacy.
Families, children, and community supporters participated in a range of activities throughout the day. Bravery Kids Gym and Dick’s House of Sport hosted interactive lawn games and movement-based activities for youth, whi le the vendor section offered autism-themed merchandise, handmade crafts, and food from well-loved local vendors including Flavapalooza, Taste of the Islands, and Wisdom Waterice. Follow the Spectrum also offered custom T-shirts for purchase to raise funds for its year-round initiatives.

In addition to entertainment and shopping, the festival served as a valuable resource fair. Numerous local ABA therapy providers offered materials, answered questions, and connected with families seeking services for children on the autism spectrum. Every new attendee received a welcome package filled with awareness items and sensory-friendly gifts.
A highlight of the event was the community art contest, which recognized creativity across various age categories with trophies awarded to winners. Follow the Spectrum staff also personally gifted sensory tools to a dozen families in attendance, reinforcing the organization’s mission to promote kindness and accessibility.
Though early weather forecasts raised concerns, the day remained mostly dry, with only a brief period of light rain before clear skies returned. The event unfolded into an afternoon filled with laughter, engagement, and shared purpose.

Follow the Spectrum continues to expand its outreach, with upcoming events including a sensory-friendly Back-to-School Giveaway at Dick’s House of Sport, a Fall Trunk or Treat, and other pop-up events aimed at promoting neurodiversity and creative expression.
