Sweet Tea Shakespeare Summer Series

 Sweet Tea Shakespeare Summer Series

Sweet Tea Shakespeare is delighted to invite artists to join us for our summer production of Pericles,
Shakespeare’s swashbuckling adventure in July. All performances will be mounted in Sweet Tea
Shakespeare’s signature under the stars style, with streaming options available worldwide as part of the
performance runs. This performance is the closing to Sweet Tea’s summer season in Fayetteville, North
Carolina, and all performances will be mounted in Sweet Tea Shakespeare’s signature under the stars style, with streaming options available worldwide as part of the performance runs.

Pericles will be directed by Marshall B Garrett.

From July 13th- July 24th, 2022, join us for the thrilling story of a young prince finding his way in the ancient Mediterranean. Sail the seas with us as Pericles faces off against an evil, adulterous king, fights off the best of the best to win the love of his life, and wrecks every ship he puts his feet on. “Pericles” is the story of a brave and noble man, who undergoes challenges and tragedies, and emerges fulfilled. It is also the story of his daughter, who is separated from her father while a baby, grows up to be a paragon of virtue in a hard world of cruelty and exploitation. Full of
swashbuckling pirates, jousting tournaments, and endless adventures, Pericles is a heartrending
adventure for all. Actors are encouraged to submit a self tape.

July 21-24, 2022, Thursday through Sunday, 6:45pm Live Music Preshow; 7:30pm Show

All shows perform Thursday through Sunday evenings at 7:30pm with a preshow beginning at
6:45pm nightly. Sweet Tea Shakespeare Plays provide an interactive play-going experience with live
music prior to every show. Most shows feature an array of snacking and drinking options, some of which may constitute a light meal. Food is available for purchase, as well as signature sweet tea, craft beer, wine, and seasonal cocktails. Outside food and drink are not permitted unless otherwise noted.

Live Music Preshow
Most of our in-person and full-length online productions feature preshow entertainment with live music
featuring our house band, The Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers (also known as “WOCO”).
Along with music, enjoy plenty of warm hospitality and ways to engage, from bidding on special seating,
which we call “Chair Paravel,” to adorning Sweet Tea Shakespeare swag available for purchase, to
yard games and activities.

The Yard on Arch Street
Performances take place at the Arch Street Yard in downtown Fayetteville NC. Performances are outdoors at 325 Arch Street with a nearby alternate location for inclement weather. Parking may be found on the top level of the parking garage directly across from the Yard. Patrons should provide their own seating. Outdoors, patrons should expect sidewalks accessible via ramp/driveway as well as sloped and uneven ground. Restroom facilities are limited, but may include portable restrooms.
The Yard is in transition as Sweet Tea Shakespeare works its magic to create a delightful, elemental,
and wondrous space. Patrons should expect large patches of dirt intermingled with rocks and are encouraged to wear closed-toe shoes. The space is open; traffic noise, pedestrians, and occasional
announcements from the stadium may be present during the performance. Life is happening around the
performance much like in Shakespeare’s time!
