Fort Bragg Paratroopers Train with New Squad Designated Marksman Rifle, M110A1
Paratroopers assigned to the 2nd Brigade Combat team, 82nd Airborne Division began training with the M110A1 Squad Designated Marksman Rifle (SDMR) at Fort Bragg, NC on November 29, 2021. Soldiers were educated with the new weapon system before conducting live fires.
The SDMR fires a 7.62x51mm NATO round and has an added bi-pod, adjustable butt stock, and an upgraded trigger to enhance the weapon system’s precision fire capabilities. The SDMR now requires less toting of surveillance equipment as the M110A1 has a 6x zoom from a Sig Sauer Tango6 optic and night vision capability. The benefits also include a high level of accuracy in the range of 300-600 meters away.
The M110A1 is also used in Canada, Poland, Armenia, and Singapore, and has been used by selected US soldier over the past few years across the nation.
