As the heat index reach well over 100 degrees, the evening are more susceptible to scattered thunderstorms. The heat advisory was followed by a thunderstorm warning for most the afternoon. Tornado warnings were issued for neighboring Sampson County. As the storm randomly and scattered across Cumberland County, social media reported large hail striking vehicles and homes. Some online users reported dents and even broke back windshields. The hail was the size of a quarter to near the size of baseballs. Temperatures quickly declined by over 15 degrees to cool the region in time for the Patriotic concert series and fireworks in downtown Fayetteville’s Festival park.
