Cumberland County Schools Honors Top Educators for 2026
FAYETTEVILLE, NC — Cumberland County Schools celebrated its Premier Professionals Gala by honoring four exceptional educators whose leadership, innovation, and dedication continue to elevate the district’s standard of excellence. The event recognized the 2026 Principal, Assistant Principal, Teacher, and Beginning Teacher of the Year — all of whom embody the district’s mission to empower every student for success.

Dr. Latreicia Allen of John Griffin Middle School was named Principal of the Year. A CCS educator since 2013, Dr. Allen began her career as a teacher before advancing into administration. She earned her Doctor of Education degree from Fayetteville State University in 2022 and leads with the philosophy “every child, every chance, every day.” Her approach emphasizes academic rigor and personalized, culturally responsive learning environments that meet students where they are.
Assistant Principal of the Year honors went to Katelyn Lovette of Sunnyside Elementary School. Lovette began her teaching career at Rockfish Elementary in 2014 and holds a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Averett University and a master’s in School Administration from UNC Pembroke. Known for her collaborative leadership and student-centered mindset, she describes education as a privilege, noting that “educators are entrusted with the community’s greatest asset — children.”
Recognized as Teacher of the Year, Manzell Spencer Jr. of Douglas Byrd Middle School has earned admiration for his creative teaching style and focus on building meaningful relationships with students. With five years of classroom experience, Spencer designs lessons that connect academic content to real-world experiences, ensuring that students’ voices are valued before diving into instruction.
The title of Beginning Teacher of the Year was awarded to Amber Autry of Cape Fear High School. In just her second year teaching science, Autry has distinguished herself with her clear communication, enthusiasm, and strong classroom management. Her principal, Dr. Jason Jordan, praised her ability to foster a structured, respectful, and engaging learning environment.
Cumberland County Schools commended all four honorees for their commitment to academic excellence and community growth. Their dedication continues to inspire both students and colleagues across the district.
