9/11 Remembrance and 2021 Field of Honor Opening Ceremony at Fayetteville’s Airborne Museum

Fayetteville, N.C. (September 7, 2021) –The Airborne & Special Operations Museum Foundation invites the public to attend a 9/11 Remembrance and the official opening of the 2021 Field of Honor on September 11, 2021, at 8:00 AM in the Museum’s Yarborough Bank Theater.

rance Ceremony is CSM (Ret) Bill Thetford, former USSOCOM Senior Enlisted Leader. This year, flag sponsors will have an opportunity to ring the Unity Bell in honor or in memory of their loved one whose flag is among those 500 dedicated on the ASOM Parade Field.  

The 2021 Field of Honor is hosted by the Airborne and Special Operations Museum Foundation and the Cool Spring Downtown District. Each flag comes with its own story and displays a tag identifying both the person who sponsored the flag and the flag honoree. This living display of heroism flies as a patriotic tr

ibute to the strength and unity of Americans, and honors all who are currently serving, those that have served, and the men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation’s security and freedom. 

The Unity Bell was created by Efland, N.C. artist, John Shoneman who said, “Bells call out for our celebrations

and toll sadly for our grief.  Above all, bells are majestic, an instrument to access the ‘Sacred’ and the ‘Divine’ in whatever form one chooses. Consider striking this bell as a call to arms, around each other.”

All flags and The Unity Bell will proudly be displayed on the Parade Field of the U.S. Army Airborne & Special Operations Museum from September 11 through November 14, 2021.
