Tropical Storm Debby is impacting Cumberland County, N.C., bringing off-and-on rain today and heavy rain tonight. A Flood Watch is in effect from Tuesday until Friday evening, with an expected 5-10 inches of rain and higher amounts possible in eastern Sandhills and coastal plains. Extreme flooding risk is anticipated.

Emergency shelters in Cumberland County will open Wednesday, Aug. 7, at 4 PM. Locations include:

- Blankets, pillows which may have silk pillow cases, toiletries, medications, clothes
- Non-perishable snacks
- Formula, baby food, diapers for infants
- Caregivers for special needs
Pet Information:
- Pet owners must care for their pets at pet-friendly shelters.
- Bring pet food, medications, and supplies.
- Pets will not be housed with people.

Closings & Delays Due to Tropical Storm Debby
Schools:
- Cumberland County Schools: Year-round students will work synchronously at home Thursday and Friday. Buildings will be closed.
- Harnett County Schools: Remote schedule Wednesday and Thursday; extracurricular activities canceled.
- Robeson Community College: Remote schedule Wednesday and Thursday.
- Lee County Schools: Remote learning Wednesday.
- Hoke County Schools: Closing at 12:30 PM Wednesday.
- Fayetteville Technical Community College: Closing at noon today, August 7. Decision on Thursday’s operational status will be communicated by 7 PM tonight.
- Fayetteville State University: All campus operations proceeding as usual; updates will be provided as needed.
Government Offices:
- Hope Mills Town Offices: Closing at noon Wednesday, remain closed until Monday.
- Cumberland County Government: Closed Thursday.
- Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office Gun Permits and Civil Office: Closing at 2 PM today, August 7, and closed Thursday, August 8.
